Please Take Your Seats, Class
|
| |
Thank you to all of our past graduates of Sugar Mama's U for your enthusiasm and high praise! We've gotten some favorable feedback, including:
- "I had a great time! Very informative and fun!"
- "I wouldn't change a thing, you guys are great!"
- "I loved it! It was better than Cats!"
High praise can become addictive, so we've decided to open the floodgates and offer our next series of classes:
Birthday Cake Decorating - Sunday, August 15th, 6 - 8:30 pm
$75 per person / $70 each with a friend - 8 students
Taught by: Andrea Leck - Pastry Chef, Head Decorator, and Kitchen Manager
Ever wonder how the pros get such beautiful and fun cakes without ending covered head-to-toe in frosting and frustration?
Now's your opportunity for some hands-on learning with an experienced decorator in our Birthday Cakes class!
Students will learn how to tort, crumb coat, frost, border, write, and do basic flowers and swirls.
You'll be decorating and taking home your very own 6" chocolate cake (please specify if you need vegan when you book your class)
to give to a loved one or to have by yourself with a bottle of wine in front of an episode of Mad Men.
Bake Sale! - Sunday September 19th, 6 - 8:30 pm
$65 per person / $60 each with a friend - 10 students
Taught by: Andrea Leck - Pastry Chef, Head Decorator, and Kitchen Manager
Remember those bake sale fundraisers your school would have, and your mom or dad would make their famous cookies or cake that would sell
like crazy and save the day? Now that you're an adult, is your solution to go out and buy it from a store so your kid can sell it for less
than you paid for it?
Fear not! Sugar Mama's is here to help, and just in time. Students will observe our teacher going over the basics of measuring,
mixing, and baking pumpkin loaves, brownies, and cookies. At the end, each student gets a copy of the recipes
as well as an assorted box of goodies.
Call the bakery during normal business hours to reserve your spot! Payment is due upon booking, and while we
cannot offer refunds, you may transfer your spot to a friend.

Austin Pets Alive!
|
| |
Sugar Mama's loves her some animals. When the world's got you down, there's nothing like a bark or a purr to cheer you up (although cupcakes are nice too! :)).
As such, we've partnered with Austin Pets Alive! for 2010.
Austin Pets Alive! is a non-profit, volunteer-run, no kill animal shelter that focuses not only on the immediate welfare of animals, but effective community changes
for eliminating the need for kill shelters. We're honored to play a small role in their noble efforts!
For our part, all proceeds from the Pupcake go to Austin Pets Alive!. Those little treats for your dogs are helping save lives! We're also providing certificates
to all new pet adopters for 2 free cupcakes and 2 free Pupcakes. If you're considering a pet, please don't breed or buy, visit APA! If you'd like to help but don't have
or want pets, there's a donation box set up at the bakery. Anything you can spare is appreciated, and of course every penny goes directly to helping the animals.
We'll be working with them in the near future to get a "wish-list" of items they need to help care for the animals. Look for a donation box just for them in conjunction
with our canned food drive this year!

Return of the Son of Name That Cupcake - Results!
|
| |
The masses have spoken, and The Churchill has emerged victorious like a rabid phoenix from the ashes of his fallen, less-awesomely-named siblings. It was a tight race,
with The Churchill barely edging out the nearly-as-good Abbey Road. This means that Jamie R. is the proud recipient of a dozen cupcakes (MSRP $30.25) as well
as a first edition Sugar Mama's Bakeshop t-shirt (MSRP Awe$ome)! Congratulations Jamie!
Thank you to all who contributed, and to those that thought about contributing and just never got around to it. While I wish that you all could be winners,
the fact is we can't nearly afford that many t-shirts.
